Conductivity for Thermoplastics

Let’s say you’re building or manufacturing something and textiles just don’t fit the bill. Perhaps you’re making something plastic, or a glass or laminate that must be conductive, either to be incorporated into a circuit or to discharge static electricity.

Consider our Eeonomer line. Eeonomers are made of intrinsically-conductive polymers (ICPs) prepared via in-situ polymerization into carbon black.

Eeonomers have several distinct advantages over other, more conventional, conductive additives. Like EeonTex™, Eeonomers are tunable: they offer a controllable and reproducible level of resistivity. They have excellent thermal stability (melt processable up to 360º Celsius) making them well suited for manufacturing—they’re simple to implement and won’t foul up the melt processing.

Eeonomers offer uniform resistivity over the entire surface of the end product—no “hot spots.”

Eeonomer Applications

F-18 Canopy

The canopy of an F-18 has to be conductive. At the altitudes it flies, it encounters some very dry air, and static buildup could lead to disaster, shorting out electronics. The military opted to include Eeonomer(s) into a special conductive coating-bus applied to the surface of the plane.

Printed Resistors

Yes, you read that right. Instead of using bulky resistors for every application, a large microelectronics company has started mixing Eeonomers with epoxy. Now they can print a completely flat 10 megaohm resistor!

Charge Transfer Application

A copy machine works by charging the image to be copied with UV light. Our Eeonomers are utilized as a triboelectrical charge transfer agent, helping to ensure a good copy.

Glass Fabric Laminate for Static-Free Rooms

In ESD applications, static buildup can cause big problems—like fried hard drives, or worse. That’s why manufacturers have been utilizing Eeonomers as an additive in the laminates the work surfaces are made out of. Presto, a static-free work table.
