Printing gone green

Innovation Non-toxic printing

About that Wired magazine you were reading … Looks great doesn’t it?

While it’s certainly nice to look at, there’s a dirty little secret within those pristine, four-color-glossy pages. The printing process that makes it (and virtually every other magazine) look so good uses industrial drying solvents laden with VOC, creating health problems for press workers and contributing to global warming.

As the western world’s thoughts turn green, the VOC solvents used in traditional four color presses are becoming a big issue. Big enough, in fact, that the US and Europe are looking at phasing them out altogether—here’s a major market change begging for some innovative problem solving.

Enter Eeonyx. Imagine, if you will, a roller made from conductive EeonTex™ mohair fabric. The roller would be “painted” with them in the pattern of the image it seeks to create. It can then pick up the electrically-charged toner (a dry, non-toxic substance), apply it to the screen, and create an image.

Four color, magazine quality, printing has now occurred—without the use of toxic solvents.

VOC-free printing is just around the corner thanks, in part, to the innovative work of Eeonyx.
